This week’s assignment was to write 10 microfiction stories, 100-150 words a piece. These stories should have a common metaphor, theme, or motif that ties them to one another.
Here is an entry from eighth grader James Robert.
#1 Whataburger
The man went back to the Whataburger enraged, ready to rip into one of the employees. The spit out burger on his windshield could not even stop him from getting there. “You there, how do you possibly add something to my order that I did not ask for!”, he exclaimed with the yellow condiment dripping down his shirt. “I am sorry sir I will correct your order immediately,” the weak woman replied. Seconds later the man hurled the burger at the woman and stormed out of the restaurant. He was still hungry as he made his way back to his messy car.
#2 Burger King
Driving home from a long day of work, hungry, and tired, Billy decided to take a stop at Burger King. He had to be quick though because Monday Night Football was about to start and he wanted to watch his team play. Billy pulled into the drive through and ordered his Whopper with fries. He sat there for about five minutes getting more and more impatient. Billy got frustrated and decided to just leave and go home. Right as he pulled out of the restaurant he got a notification that the football game had been delayed 30 minutes. He angrily went back in the line, but the line had grown fifteen times in size and he could no longer get food.
#3 Raising Cane’s
John Luke could not wait for his birthday party. He would have all his friends, but most importantly HIS FOOD. Ever since Johnny was a little toddler he has loved Raising Canes and has had it for every birthday party since he was four years old. Johnny had ordered the entire menu from Raising Canes and his party was about to begin. Johnny was so excited for his party. Ten minutes passed, an hour and still nobody showed up. Nobody wanted to come to Johnny's birthday party. Johnny was very disappointed and his canes was starting to get cold. Johnny wouldn't let his canes go to waste as he ate almost all of the food and left little crumbs. Johnny just wished he could have shared it with his “friends”.
#4 McDonald’s
McDonalds was the spot to go in the summer. It had all the great food and an awesome family experience, but the main reason all the kids wanted to go there was because of the giant playground inside the restaurant. Kids would play for hours in that playground and have the best time. It was all fun and games until one day in the middle of the summer a child went into the playground and never returned. For days people searched through the playground looking for the lost child, but he was nowhere to be found. The little child was never found ever again.
#5 Chick-fil-a
Josh was having an amazing Sunday, he woke up a couple hours before to go to his cross country meet. He had one of his best races and finished in the top 5. Josh was on his way home and he wanted to get food after his exhausting race. Scrolling on his phone he saw a chick-fil-a add and immediately decided that was where he wanted to go. Josh already knew what we wanted to order, they had new stuff on the menu including a brand new milkshake that he wanted so badly to try. The thought of a nice chick-fil-a lunch after his meet made Josh very happy. Soon after this though, Josh realized the problem and then he had to settle with waiting until the next day.
#6 Sonic
After every football game the Second Baptist team went to Sonic and they all sat down and had dinner together, but that was only if they LOST. You see, this was because the football team hated Sonic so much and they thought eating it would be a punishment. The main reason the players even wanted to win was because they were afraid to go to Sonic and have to eat the awful food they serve. Every game they tried so, so hard to win just for the peace of not going to Sonic. This punishment eventually led to the team winning the championship and not losing one game at all.
#7 Dairy Queen
“And that is why you should never eat Dairy Queen,” the speaker concluded. But I wasn't going to let this stand. I got out of my chair and rushed towards the stage, stealing the mic from the other person. Whatever they had to say would never be as important as this. “I object,” I screamed in the mic, “I will not let you disrespect Dairy Queen like this.” I remarked. “For ten years I have been going to Dairy Queen and not once has any employee ever been anything but kind to me, not once has Dairy Queen ever gotten my order wrong, and most importantly, not once have the blizzards ever disappointed my taste buds.”
#8 Wendy’s
It was the fourth quarter of possibly the greatest Super Bowl ever, the entire crowd was rumbling and the watch party with all my friends were sinking in their chairs from nervousness. The end of the game was near, and then for what felt like the fiftieth time that day another Wendy’s commercial came on. The same commercial was just on repeat and no other brands or companies had a chance to get on that screen with Wendy’s using all of it. The entire watch party was disappointed, and besides the food in the commercial did not even look that good. If anything it just made me never want to go there ever again.
#9 Taco Bell
There John Luke was again, sitting in the corner of the Taco Bell inhaling the five tacos he ordered. He hated this sick cycle. He needed to get in shape, but he didn’t know how without giving up his Taco Bell. He had a thought and went and asked the Taco Bell employee, “Is anything on your menu healthy here?”. The woman looked at him and said, “Yes, there are plenty of healthy options for you here, but if you are looking to stay healthy` and be in shape then exercising and protein is the best option for you.” The moment the lady said this she regretted it, and she was fired the next day. She had just convinced their best and one of their only customers to quit going to Taco Bell forever.
#10 KFC
Tim always had a question that was at the back of his mind ever since he could remember anything. Who was the man on the logo of KFC? You might be wondering why he had such a stupid question and why he even cared, but I do not think anyone really knows who that man is. Is he a fake person they drew out, or a random person they brought off the streets to make their logo. It could even be the founder of the restaurant himself. Tim spent an entire day at school searching the web to find out who this man could be. He never found any answer and I guess we will never know who the man on the front of the KFC logo is.
Who knew stories about fast food could be so entertaining? I love this!
