Here we have two short poems by eighth grader Travis Chvatal, tied to the theme of losing something valuable. I think the theme that ties them together is great, but I really love the differences in tone and structure here. The losing of the thing is chaotic, bouncing from rhyme to rhyme in triplets, waiting for the landing. it feels like looking under the couch and then behind the bed and then in between the car seats.
The joy of finding is like a breath of fresh air. Which Travis gets, and tries to help us get too.
Sorrow of Losing When an item is lost, No matter the cost, Aside it was tossed. Just left to rot, A sick humans plot, Against which I fought. I had it all year, And now it's not here That item, so dear. Joy of Finding The scrambling chaos, Drowning In the surf, Swimming upwards, Not making a dent, Heart racing, The lost item, forever gone, Searching far and wide, But to no avail, And finally, Finally, When it is found, The relief washes over, It is a feeling like no other.
